Stillwater Yacht Club
This two-day event involves sailing from MPYC, to and from Stillwater Cove (Pebble Beach) with a reverse start from "G" and normal start between a mark and a small committee boat at Stillwater Cove. The regatta was conceived by T. Arnold Smith in 1978 in honor of past Commodores whose hard work and dedication helped build the MPYC.
The Santanarama began in 1966 and features the 22’ Santana. SYC owns three of these sloops for members' use. The regatta includes three races using the main and jib sails and an open race where spinnakers are used. In recent years the participants have been treated to on-the-water refreshments and challenging games in addition to the racing competition.
Joining the Santana 22's will be the sleek 30 foot Shields class, which returned to Carmel Bay last year. The Shields will be competing for the Jon Konigshofer trophy, honoring our charter member and 1955 Commodore. The graceful sloops sport colorful spinnakers and race with a crew of 4 or 5.
The Labor Day Regatta for 18’ Mercury class sloops has been held each year since 1950. At its peak the regatta drew over 60 boats from throughout California and beyond. SYC at one time had over 20 Mercury owners among its members, many of whom were class champions. Today the Labor Day Regatta is still a highlight on the Mercury class calendar. Mercury sailors and their families still travel from all over the west to enjoy our beautiful bay and legendary hospitality.
